Leadership Expertise in Spine Surgery. Building the Future.
ABOUT KIC VENTURES
Our Culture
KIC Ventures was founded by surgeons, engineers, and investment professionals who share a commitment to advancing health technology in spine surgery through disciplined capital allocation.
Built by Surgeons. Proven Over Decades.
KIC Ventures is a physician-founded and physician-led private equity healthtech firm focused on spine surgery. KIC Ventures was founded in 2013 as the healthtech venture arm of KIC, which was founded in 2005. The idea began in 2000, when Harvard-trained professor and orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Kingsley R. Chin conceived his first spine patent while training at Harvard Medical School. Over more than two decades, KIC has endured and grown through major market cycles and challenges, including the 2008 financial shock and the COVID era. We have invested over 100 million dollars of founder capital and reinvested operating revenue, raised over 30 million dollars from outside investors, and completed more than 10 key M and A transactions to build and scale revenue-generating spine technology companies. Since 2000, we have pioneered Less Exposure Spine Surgery (LESS™) and the REP™ philosophy, Restore Function, Early Treatment, Preserve Anatomy, to help shift spine care away from rigid fusion and toward motion-preserving outpatient procedures that improve recovery, preserve anatomy, and restore function. Building on this legacy, we are advancing a new specialty called Interventional Spine Surgery. By combining the precision of minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) with the percutaneous approach of interventional pain management, we are establishing a new standard of care designed to reduce surgical exposure, shorten recovery, and improve the outpatient patient experience worldwide. Today, KIC Ventures operates a growing portfolio of revenue-generating spine technology companies, including: AxioMed, viscoelastic disc replacement technologies NanoFuse Biologics, FDA-cleared synthetic bone graft solutions NANISX, the broadest portfolio of best-in-class technology solutions for outpatient interventional spine surgery Through NANISX, we are building a bridge across the spine care continuum, connecting interventional pain management physicians and spine surgeons through standardized training, real-world execution in the ASC setting, and outcomes supported by peer-reviewed publications and leading spine societies.
Our Vision, Vertical Integration to Empower Physicians
We believe the future of spine care will be built through vertical integration and physician leadership. Healthcare has seen surgeon-founded platforms scale into enduring institutions, including Kaiser Permanente founded by surgeon Dr. Sidney Garfield, and Stryker founded by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Homer Stryker. These models reinforce a simple truth. When physicians lead, innovation becomes practical, scalable, and lasting. KIC Ventures is forging its own path by building a vertically integrated platform designed to empower physicians through: MedTech, LESS™ surgical technologies built for outpatient scalability TechMed, software and connected solutions including MediConnects and the AxioMedX Smart Disc Services, the LESS Institute and LESS clinics focused on standardized training and execution Community, the LESS Society as a foundation for education, adoption, and physician leadership This integrated model strengthens outcomes, accelerates innovation, and expands access, while keeping physicians at the center of the future of spine care.
Leadership and Physician Partnerships
KIC Ventures is built on surgeon-led innovation and physician-driven adoption. We partner with physicians not only as users of technology, but as leaders in clinical strategy, education, research, and market development, helping scale LESS™ solutions responsibly while improving patient outcomes worldwide. The mission is clear. The work is hard. And we are building the future of outpatient spine care.
